Monarch Title Company Celebrates 20 Years In Business and Looks To The Future of Online Closings

Chuck Bowman, CEO
Monarch Title Company
RELEASE DATE: October 8, 2021

Columbia, MO – Today honored members of the Columbia community gathered to celebrate Monarch Title Company’s 20 years in business at the downtown Columbia office. CEO and President, Chuck Bowman, former Mizzou football Coach Gary Pinkel, and State Senator Sandy Crawford were all in attendance.

The event kicked off with a ribbon cutting celebrating the recent change in ownership. Chuck and Pam Bowman became owners in January 2020. Following the ribbon cutting, State Senator Sandy Crawford presented the Senate Resolution making October 7th Monarch Title Anniversary Day. However, her attendance and relationship with Monarch Title Company means so much more to the future of the title insurance industry.

In 2020 Senator Crawford played an integral role in passing HB1655, also known as the Remote Online Notarization Bill. She wasn’t alone in advocating for this bill. Chuck Bowman was the president for Missouri Land Title Association in 2019 and this was at the top of his agenda. Additionally, Chuck’s wife, Pam Bowman, has worked for Senator Crawford for over 12 years. Together, along with support from House Representative Hannah Kelly and other MLTA advocates, the bill was passed into law in May 2020.

Remote Online Notarization allows for official documents to be signed by a notary in an audio-visual call with the signee. The person requesting the notarization has to show proof of identity virtually.

At the anniversary event, Senator Crawford commented on the bill’s extensive history. “Even though it was the third year this bill was worked on, it was the first year I was personally involved. We were able to collaborate with all the concerned parties to come up with a bill that I think is very workable for many industries- including title insurance, banking, and legal industries.”

Although this bill had been in the works for three years, its importance increased when the pandemic hit. The pandemic brought many in-person business transactions to a halt, online notarization was a key step to moving forward in the home buying process as so many banks, notary offices and real estate firms closed their doors and moved to virtual.

In September 2021, Monarch Title Company had two successful closings using Remote Online Notarizations. “These closings simply would not have happened, or would have become very costly if not for remote online notarization,” said Chuck Bowman. “We had one couple who was out of the country and, due to the pandemic, couldn’t go to the US Embassy or find another notary. Because of the remote on-line notarization law, Monarch Title assisted by having a power of attorney signed allowing family members to sign on their behalf. This action enabled the closing to go on as scheduled, without delay.

Jennifer Shipman, at RE/MAX Boone Realty was grateful for Monarch’s impressive use of the technology for her client. “[Monarch is] definitely on the forefront of technology and I never would have been able to close for my sellers who were located in a third world country. Not only did Monarch Title come through for me in a pinch, they did it in a matter of days! Now that is truly amazing, awesome and impressive!”

Thanks to Remote Online Notarization, Monarch has had two long-distance closings and are looking forward to more. “We’re proud to not only be in the industry for 20 years, but to be innovators in it,” said Bowman.
